Tokyo, Japan — Japanese grocery store chain Ajinomoto has announced plans to open a new Japanese grocery chain in Tokyo in 2018.
The company said that it has signed an agreement with the City of Tokyo to open the first Japanese grocery stores in the country in 2019.
Ajinomotors new grocery store in Tokyo will open on April 1, 2019, according to the company’s website.
Under the agreement, Ajinumoto will operate the new supermarket in Tokyo from April 1 to May 1, and will be the first of its kind in Japan.
According to the Tokyo metropolitan government, Aganomoto plans to invest up to 5 billion yen ($47 million) in its new store and expand its operations in Tokyo, as well as other areas in the metropolitan area.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has vowed to boost the countrys economy by opening more stores in Tokyo and other major cities, and has set a target to open 500,000 stores by 2030.
